On Thursday, I went to Asunción, the capital of Paraguay, for a conference by Richard Stallman.
In the evening, we went to a nice bar to have dinner with the guys from Argentina. While looking at the menu to decide what to eat, I chose to have half a dozen empanadas. When I placed the order, the waitress looked at me in astonishment and said:
"Half a dozen!!!! Are you sure? Look, with two you’ll definitely be full!"
I immediately asked about the size of the empanadas, and she indicated a size not much bigger than the ones here. Just to be safe, I changed my mind and reduced my order to 3 empanadas.
My mistake in all this was not realizing we live in a three-dimensional space and I accepted a two-dimensional reference. The waitress had indicated the size in width, not height.
